In March of 2015, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer; the cancer had spread to his liver and he was given 6-9 months to live. Through chemo, radiation, and immunotherapy, we’ve miraculously had nearly 3 years with him.
Unfortunately, in September of 2017, my dad had no choice but to begin living on the streets of Santa Barbara in his RV, requiring him to move each morning at 6am and each evening at 7pm. As you can imagine, this has been an extremely difficult lifestyle, particularly while undergoing cancer treatment.
In December, my dad made the difficult decision to halt treatments. His health has declined fairly rapidly. We’ve thus hit a point where it’s become imperative to find him a safe and stable “home” so that he can spend his remaining days comfortably and with some dignity.
Following the natural disasters in SB's recent history, finding public support for him now, when he needs it most, has become impossible. I’m reaching out to my community to help, as his fixed disability income is not nearly enough to meet his monthly expenses, let alone for a place to live in Santa Barbara. I don’t expect he has a terribly long amount of time left with us; each day with him is a gift, and any support – financial or otherwise – to help him make the most of these days would be so deeply appreciated.
